The Institutes has updated the course materials for their CPCU courses to a new “online” version. New exams for CPCU 555, 556, and 557 will start on January 15, 2021.

The vast majority of the course content for the new CPCU 556 is the same as what was in the 1st edition textbook from 2019. Below is an outline of the new book and how it compares to the old material. Here at BigDaddy U, we refer to the chapters as Modules and the subsections within those chapters as Learning Objectives (LOs).

• Module 1 – Understanding Personal Financial Planning
  • This is the same as the old Module 1
• Module 2 – Recommending Life Insurance and Annuities
  • A combination of the old Modules 2 & 3
    • Includes old Module 2 – LOs 3, 4, & 5 and Module 3 – LOs 2 & 5
• Module 3 – Maximizing Disability and Health Insurance
  • Very similar to the old Module 4, but old Module 4 – LO 1 was removed
• Module 4 – Evaluating Investment Strategies
  • This is the same as the old Module 9
• Module 5 – Funding Postsecondary Education
  • Very similar to the old Module 5
  • LO 2 – Calculating a Postsecondary Education Funding Amount is brand new
• Module 6 – Funding Retirement
  • A combination of the old Modules 6 & 7
    • Includes old Module 6 – LOs 2 & 3 and Module 7 – LOs 3, 4, & 5
• Module 7 – Establishing an Estate Plan
  • This is the same as the old Module 8
• Module 8 – Planning for Taxes
  • This is the same as the old Module 10

• The list of Learning Objectives from the old book that have been completely removed are as follows:
  • Module 2 – Learning Objectives 1, 2, & 6
  • Module 3 – Learning Objectives 1, 3, & 4
  • Module 4 – Learning Objective 1
  • Module 6 – Learning Objective 1
  • Module 7 – Learning Objectives 1 & 2
