How is the CPCU program changing?

 

The Institutes has changed the requirements for the CPCU designation and released new course materials for all of their CPCU courses. While the course numbers are staying the same, the course names have changed and consequently the new course materials are labeled as 1st editions. To keep things straight going forward, we’ll use the phrases “new 2023 edition” and “old 2020 edition.”

 

If you are taking an exam before September 15, 2023, you can continue to use the existing BDU study materials for any CPCU exam. All of our CPCU study materials were updated in 2020 or 2021 and correspond to the old 2020 edition CPCU exams. CPCU exams taken after October 15, 2023 will cover the new 2023 edition courses.

    so if I use the courses with BDU, where do I go for the exams for each course

      We sell study materials that help you prepare for your CPCU exams. The CPCU courses and exams are administered by The Institutes. You have to take the exams through The Institutes.

    CPCU 520 maybe in Oct?

      We don’t have a good estimate right now for when our CPCU 520 study materials will be updated, but it’s unlikely they’ll be ready in October 2023. They may be done by the end of the year.

    Do you know how different the 540 2020 version is versus the 2023?

    Do you offer any study material AU 60–Evaluating Commercial Underwriting Risks?

    Any idea when any of the following course will be completed?

    CPCU 551, 552 or 530

    As well as any of the electives.

      While we don’t have a precise timeline for when the update to each course will be done, the update to CPCU 530 will likely come in early 2024 and 551 and 552 in mid 2024. We don’t currently have plans to develop study materials for any of the CPCU electives.

    I am considering not waiting for the CPCU 530 update. I read in one of your article that not much has change in this particular exam. I recently completed my ARM without a re-test and want to continue moving forward with the least waste of time as possible. Please advise.

      We have not yet seen the new CPCU 530 course materials, so we cannot advise on how much has changed. We have read from other sources that the majority of the new course content comes from the previous version, so it is likely you’ll be fine using our existing 530 study materials to prepare for the new exam.       We don’t have a precise estimate right now, but it’s likely the updated CPCU 530 study materials will be ready in April or May 2024.
